I've received a couple of literary analyses that quotes dialogue and refers to events in the short story that literally doesn't occur. How does one evaluate such submissions?

Do those quotations and events exist in some other published story, i.e. might students simply be analysing the wrong story, either as an innocent mistake or because they're copying work from students in a previous year cohort when the set text was different?– user128581Commented Apr 14 at 14:58
