Jan 9, 2022 at 4:09 | comment | added | Greenstick | Seems in poor taste. It also seems to align with the ‘degrees are just social signaling’ view advanced by some over the idea that education has intrinsic value (i.e. you’ve actually grappled with the challenges and done the hard work to earn a degree and the diploma’s just a superficial means of verifying this). I mean, really — if you get into a bunch of programs, attend one, deny the rest — shouldn’t the material in your CV used to offer you a place in the programs you denied be sufficient to show your merit?
Jan 8, 2022 at 15:03 | comment | added | Nelson | @Valorum Why? Supermodels are good to look at. Nobody knows if they're good to date.
Jan 8, 2022 at 11:24 | comment | added | Valorum | @BryanKrause - Listing off supermodels would be quite impressive
Jan 7, 2022 at 22:22 | comment | added | Anton | Absolutely right. Who cares where you might have gone? What matters is where you are going. To list such dead stuff is merely narcissistic.
Jan 7, 2022 at 17:15 | comment | added | Pete L. Clark | I completely agree with this answer. I just want to add: I think this is entirely cultural. I see nothing unethical about listing this on one's CV -- it just so happens that it is most likely to create a negative impression rather than a positive one.

Jan 7, 2022 at 15:12 | comment | added | Richard Erickson | I would say it might be okay to list a fellowship as an Honor, even if declined. Similar to the NSF's Honorable Mentions) but otherwise 100% agree with your answer

Jan 7, 2022 at 1:59 | comment | added | Jochen Glueck | It might be worthwhile to point out that whether "telling [...] job offers you rejected [...] is considerably off-putting" is very strongly dependent on local customs. Since OP explicitly mentions US, I agree with you, but in some other places it is completely common to list rejected job offers for, say, positions as a professor in one's CV.
Jan 7, 2022 at 1:47 | comment | added | Bryan Krause♦ | I have in mind now wedding vows where each person lists off all the romantic partners they rejected to get where they are...
