The rules for my institution seem pretty relaxed, the external needs to hold the qualification level they are examining (PhD), and they cannot have been employed by the university in the last 5 years. Then there is a bunch of soft qualifications along the lines of "appropriate expertise". | |

This is the most important thing I think. You were only asked for a list---why not make a list and see who your supervisor thinks is best. | |
