Here that's not really the case - teaching duties aren't on behalf of the PI, and the funding for the research works differently to e.g. the US. While there are international differences, there are also differences between groups within countries.

The whole Covid thing pretty much guaranteed that it could not happen for you in a timely fashion to introduce you to potential post-doc places, but that might not be their fault or desire in the first place.
