But if your research is in machine learning, I would say the correlation is significant. Just keep track of the number of papers uploaded to arXiv in machine learning and you will see why.

I read that if you have a certain number of followers and your paper is tweeted, it is likely to be cited more. Having a Twitter really helped me getting more connections, increased participation for the events I organize etc.

Sep 29, 2020 at 9:54 comment added dusa It is good to know what other unis have recommended on this matter, however I don't see this working on Twitter for example, unless it means -never have a Twitter account- I mean I can ignore the students, but they can follow me without needing my approval
