The other way around, there is a subset of applied sciences or rather sub-fields in some sciences that focus on applied branches with a particular notion of close industry collaboration and there the likelihood is larger to meet homo economicus in professor garb. There are lots of professors in applied sciences that kept their ivory tower intact and like it being built on non-monetary motivation just like your theoretical subject profs. Okay, and then there is law ;)
