Then the rest will become clearer. Conferences are a good way to see a lot of options (about academia) in one place, though they are mostly virtual now. | |

However, during my undergraduate I was more lab-focused, now I work in policy. I'm not 100% sure which side of health I would like to focus on if I switch to academia, but as I don't know how to go about it, it's difficult to search for opportunities. For example, if it would be best for me to do another masters first, then maybe I would need to approach it from a different perspective than if I try straight for a PhD. | |

May 17, 2020 at 18:58 | comment | added | Lynne | @KevinMiller It's a complicated answer. I've always enjoyed reading, and learning, and thinking, and becoming specialised in a topic. At the same time, academia provides an opportunity to provide some input or insights into issues which could be helpful. In my current job we have to "specialise" in what the client wants, in a short period time, and it is often not scientifically-based, and very biased. Academia was the area that drew me in for being the opposite of that. I hope that clarifies some of my reasonings. | |
