Apr 16, 2020 at 16:00 comment added J... @CarlWitthoft If research and facility quality has no impact on career prospects, funding, and success potential, then why would we bother ranking them?
Apr 16, 2020 at 15:48 comment added I_wil_break_wall My little experience during my Ph.D. tells that it matter to larger extent as in tier 2 not many professors are active in research they are more active in teaching and academic activities. Funding is also less in tier 2.
Apr 16, 2020 at 14:36 comment added Carl Witthoft Why do you think the "level" of the institution will either enhance or degrade your ability to do research? Separately -- if you are just looking for lots of co-authors, then the size of Uni matters, not its reputation.
Apr 15, 2020 at 20:37 comment added J... @cag51 11-20 in India is around 600-800 global, comparable to mid-lower tier state universities in the USA, if that's familiar to you.

Apr 15, 2020 at 14:17 comment added cag51 @mast - I think so, if only because I don't have a great intuition for what the 15th best school in India is like, or how much "worse" it is than the tier-1 institutes.

Fixed the question formation - missing auxiliary (or helping) verb - see e.g. <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t4yWEt0OSpg&t=1m49s> (see also <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kS5NfSzXfrI> (QUASM)). Removed meta information (this is implied and is not necessary).

Apr 13, 2020 at 21:56 comment added cag51 You say these institutions are 11-20 in India; what would those rankings work out to globally?
Apr 13, 2020 at 21:56 comment added cag51 "Joining as a faculty" normally implies a permanent position -- is that the case here?
