Follow up question - if part of the reason for funding PhD students is because it's the university's mission, why not fund more scholarships? Both need-based or merit-based, as opposed to blanket-funding all PhD students? On that point as well I'm now wondering why undergraduates pay for their own education but PhD students don't, but that might be more appropriate for a separate question. | |
