Dread Pirate Alex
My alias is Dread Pirate Alex, but you can call me Westley ;)
By trade, I'm a Java programmer.
Being a cornucopian, my wish is to help the world become what it is already destined to be. A place for free-dom. Free, not as in free beer, nor free time, rather as in Liberty. I believe software is the factor that will allow us to manifest our true potential as a species. Our potential to not be handicapped by physical limitations, nor socioeconomic status.
Software, being soft, breaks our fated chains of martyrdom and escorts us out from the cave; the cave of scarcity. We are to progress into a new age, the cerebral age, if you will. The age where self interest will be de-demonized, but also lost due to its own impotence. We are freed from animal self-indulgence into a world where man acts, just acts.
To accomplish this we need adequate software. Adequate being, sharing all three traits of the sacred triad: richness, security and performance.
From my experience, Java is that, all that. Java is a language that will stand the test of time. Not only that though, I strongly think that because Java is Platform Independent, has lots of APIs, has a strong community, it is fast and, at last, is free, it will be one of the top players in the Software world for a long time to come.
We are on strike against martyrdom—and against the moral code that demands it. We are on strike against those who believe that one man must exist for the sake of another. We are on strike against the morality of cannibals, be it practiced in body or in spirit. We will not deal with men on any terms but ours—and our terms are a moral code which holds that man is an end in himself and not the means to any end of others.
