How to deal with my PhD application?

I am a new Phd student (almost one year into the program). I was in theory in the Master's program, and switched to experimental for my PhD. For my study I have to use programming language, but I had less experience with it. I Immediately started to work with this, but still have big problems dealing with this. So I don't have any positive contribution and my supervisor doesn't seem to be happy. I really want to continue with experimental study, don't want to just quit and go back to theory.actually my problem is that i want to continue experimental study but not in my current university maybe somewhere else. When i talked to my supervisor about this he just told me to quit and find sth else but i don't believe this is the way to motivate student. i've applied for other positions which are actually different topic but experimental. the people who i contacted were so interested in my studies i have done before. But at the end this people will contact with my supervisor about my progress and i think he will not say good things about me :) So in this case i am completely stucked. What should i say those people to get an acceptance since i really want to continue in this experimental field.
