I recently received an offer for a lectureship position at a smaller UK university, albeit with a notable compensation decrease. I am seeking guidance on the key inquiries to pose during negotiations to aid in my decision-making process. Additionally, I would greatly appreciate insight into the crucial factors contributing to potential career advancement in this role.

Just to clarify: are you already working at a UK university?

  • Salary decrease compared to what? Your current position? If so, what is that position? Commented Oct 11, 2023 at 19:21

If you would relocate, check housing costs very carefully. Get this information from the housing market, not your future colleagues.

Directly ask the people hiring you what you should know and what you should request in negotiations. Ask the same questions to recent hires. Read the union contract; it may tell you what you can and cannot request.
