  • I don't know if Australia is any different, but normally decisions don't consider age of the applicant and it is likely illegal to do so in many places. But work experience alone isn't enough to get you over the bar. – Buffy Feb 27 at 12:41
  • Age discrimination is illegal in Australian universities. Period. It's impossible to say to what extent it still goes on, but they know it's illegal. – Elizabeth Henning Feb 27 at 19:23
