Dec 20, 2016 at 2:24 comment added Zuriel @BenCrowell, do you have suggestions on where I should seek guidance for my question?
Dec 19, 2016 at 23:42 comment added user1482 This is very broad and not well suited to the SE format in my opinion.
Dec 19, 2016 at 22:56 comment added mfl Even the university I worked with didn't give an e-mail. But I wouldn't change the time I spent doing it. It was and it is a pleasure. Unfortunately I have less free time now and I almost can do a little reseach. So, if you want to do some reseach you can do it. The answer given by @NateEldredge gives you good advice. Again, good luck.
Dec 19, 2016 at 22:47 comment added mfl Absolutely not. Just personal satisfaction. Even to attend some meeting I have lost the salary of a week.
Dec 19, 2016 at 22:21 comment added Zuriel @mfl, thanks for your comment! Just a question out of curiosity: Do your publications make any difference on your job as a high school teacher? Does your high school give you any acknowledgement/award/promotion for your research?
Dec 19, 2016 at 21:43 comment added mfl It is possible to do some research in mathematics while you are teaching at the College. It may be difficult but possible. It's my personal experience. I have written serveral papers teaching at a high school. After I got my PhD I kept in contact with my advisor and we have written several papers. Of course it is important to keep contact with people in your field. It's difficult to attend meetings because of your work. But probably you'll be able to attend a couple of them every year. Good luck.

Dec 19, 2016 at 18:40 comment added Dan Romik @NateEldredge good comment and answer, thanks. +1 to both.
Dec 19, 2016 at 18:37 comment added Nate Eldredge @Zuriel: See my answer, e.g. affiliation may entitle you to library privileges at other institutions. Also, one concern that I think some people have when encountering unaffiliated mathematicians is that they may be cranks. Having any sort of academic affiliation will help overcome this.
Dec 19, 2016 at 18:35 comment added Zuriel @NateEldredge, thanks for pointing out this! May I know what are the advantages for this affiliation?
Dec 19, 2016 at 18:29 comment added Nate Eldredge @DanRomik: Having some affiliation with a post-secondary institution, even if it's not a research-oriented place, can give one significant advantages compared to a completely independent researcher. So I think that is relevant here.

Dec 19, 2016 at 18:26 comment added Zuriel @DanRomik, yes, though the asker may not be in an exactly same environment as I, the answers and comments there provides invaluable information for me. Thanks for that!
Dec 19, 2016 at 18:22 comment added Dan Romik For example, here is one question that seems relevant.
Dec 19, 2016 at 18:19 comment added Dan Romik I think your question is likely to be a duplicate of several other questions on this site. Check out the independent-researcher tag. You are essentially in the same situation as any other person with a full-time job outside a research-oriented department who wants to do research in their spare time, so many of the questions in that tag will be applicable.
Dec 19, 2016 at 18:15 comment added Zuriel Thanks @DanRomik for your comment. Basically I am asking: What should I do if I want to do mathematical research, giving that I am in this environment?
Dec 19, 2016 at 18:14 comment added Dan Romik Any suggestions for me to do my research in this environment will be greatly appreciated. My suggestion is to clarify what you are asking, since as of now there doesn't seem to be an actual question here.
