Election Phase

In the election phase, the candidates who made it through the nomination phase or primary phase (if required) advance to final community voting. Candidates are displayed in random order.

Any community member with 150 reputation may vote in the election. Please make your selections in order of preference, with the most desirable candidate as first choice. You do not need to rank all candidates.

We will calculate the winners using OpaVote with the Meek STV method, which automatically weights users' votes in the way that does the most good for the candidates they have selected, in order of preference.

When the election is complete, the ballot file will be freely downloadable from this page for the life of the site. Individual users' voting choices are always private; only the aggregated tally will be made public.

On Stack Exchange, we believe the core moderators should come from the community, and be elected by the community itself through popular vote. We hold regular elections to determine who these community moderators will be.

Community moderators are accorded the highest level of privilege on our community, and should themselves be exemplars of positive behavior and leaders within the community.

Our general criteria for moderators is as follows:

patient and fair
leads by example
shows respect for their fellow community members in their actions and words
open to some light but firm moderation to keep the community on track and resolve (hopefully) uncommon disputes and exceptions

Every election has three phases:

Election

Nomination Primary Election

I’m cag51, and I would like to be your moderator.

In my time on Academia.SE so far, I have focused on giving high-quality, well-written answers to interesting questions, and to editing interesting but poorly-presented questions. Many of these questions had attracted close votes, but went on to become HNQs after some editing.

Of course, being a diamond moderator is different than being a high-rep user. If elected, I anticipate spending more time on meta, editing, and flag review.

I do not anticipate advancing any drastic changes – there is already a good community and many interesting discussions. Rather, my role as a diamond mod would be to (attempt to) understand and apply the community’s norms in a transparent and equitable way. If my efforts help to decrease discord and increase the ratio of interesting discussions, then I will have been successful.

Hello, I am Yves.

I am candidating for the position because I want to support our stack community. I really like the dynamics of our websites, and them being carried by great communities and people.

Oh wow, only 1640 reputation? (and I believe my moderation score won't be much either since I do not even have edit privs here) Well, yes. I haven't been much of a poster here, but I'm around.

So why vote for me? If my stats on Academia don't say much about me, you may want to consider my activity on other stacks, such as Security.se. There, I often participate on the main site, reviews and meta activities. I am also present in the DMZ chat room.

I believe I can be of value to the community in giving my time, and bringing my experience from other communities I have been involved with, to help and make Academia.se grow. I value respect and fairness, and solving conflicts by allowing everyone to be heard and understood.

I've been an active Academia user for about 5 years now: this is a community I've really enjoyed being part of and I hope I've been of some help. I've participated to meta discussions about on-topic-ness, and about the operation and the management of this site. I'd be happy to contribute as a moderator.

If there is a thread in my participation here, it would be about the variations of academia around the world. I think that the possibility of presenting, discussing and spreading information about this variability, allowing people to better understand different academic cultures, is one of the strengths of this community, and it's something that enriches all of us — long-standing and casual users alike.

Academia is growing and we frequently have questions that reach the HNQ list, causing moderation issues, especially in the most controversial cases. This site is characterized by a soft, unobtrusive moderation style, but fairly efficient nonetheless. I think that whoever is elected should continue along this path and, in case, I'll do my best to follow it.
