Use cases of org-mode as a scientific productivity tool for academics without programming needs I read this as a separate question as well as the linked duplicate focuses entirely on project management, where as the current question deals more with research workflow. For example, I did not consider points 1 and 2 in my answer to the linked question (but certainly did cover point 3 in broad terms). Also the request for use cases would lead to a more detailed answer, whereas the linked question was more a general request for software. |

How useful is it to perform a systematic literature review? I usually do a review at the beginning of a semester and at the start of the summer, which breaks down to about 4 months between reviews. If you are in a faster moving discipline, you may need to review more often or perhaps set something like a Google Alert to notify you when a relevant search is updated. I will also do a quick update any time I am writing a conference or journal paper to make sure that any references in my introduction are up to date. |

What are some good project-management tools for academics? @shan23: For Org-mode there is VimOrganizer, but it has been awhile since I have looked at VIM. There also appears to be another effort called vim-orgmode but I have zero experience with it. I actually use EVIL, (Extensible VI Layer) in Emacs because I prefer the VIM navigation, but Org-mode and AUCTeX have been too good for me to stop using Emacs. If it's just TaskJuggler you want, you should be able to use the native format, just edit with VIM. |
