Welcome to Academia Stack Exchange

Academia is a question and answer site for academics of all levels. It's built and run by you as part of the Stack Exchange network of Q&A sites. With your help, we're working together to build a library of detailed answers to every question about academia.

We're a little bit different from other sites. Here's how:

Ask questions, get answers, no distractions

This site is all about getting answers. It's not a discussion forum. There's no chit-chat.

Just questions...

...and answers.

Good answers are voted up and rise to the top.

The best answers show up first so that they are always easy to find.

The person who asked can mark one answer as "accepted".

Accepting doesn't mean it's the best answer, it just means that it worked for the person who asked.

Should I send a PDF or Google Drive link to professors?

14

To avoid the spam filter by Gmail, should I directly attach my CV in PDF format or should I upload my CV in Google Drive and put the Google Drive link at the end of my email?

I heard PDFs that contains links (I have so many links in my CV) usually go to the spam folder. Do you think putting a Google Drive link is the best option to send my CV to professors?

You could also send the pdf along with a second, follow up, mail after a day or so saying that you have sent the earlier mail and asking if it was received. You could instead and more simply, in the first mail, ask for a brief reply that it has been received.

Reiterating other answers and comments: PDF without links. Everything else has some security dangers. The links do not add so much...

Get answers to practical, detailed questions

Focus on questions about an actual problem you have faced. Include details about what you have tried and exactly what you are trying to do.

Ask about...

  • academic careers,
  • requirements and expectations of students, postdocs, or professors,
  • inner workings of research departments,
  • academic writing and publishing,
  • studying and teaching at institutions of higher education (universities, colleges, …),

Not all questions work well in our format. Avoid questions that are primarily opinion-based, or that are likely to generate discussion rather than answers.

Questions that need improvement may be closed until someone fixes them.

Don't ask about...

  • anything not in an academic setting
  • the content of research and coursework
  • recommendations for a university, journal, research topic, or similar
  • the rules of individual universities
  • undergraduate admissions
  • undergraduate life and culture
  • preparations for a non-academic career

Tags make it easy to find interesting questions

All questions are tagged with their subject areas. Each can have up to 5 tags, since a question might be related to several subjects.

Click any tag to see a list of questions with that tag, or go to the tag list to browse for topics that interest you.

"You could instead and more simply, in the first mail, ask for a brief reply that it has been received." While you could do that, it not particularly likely you would get a reply. - TimRias Oct 25, 2023 at 12:26
